To become a professional tree surveyor there are some pretty intensive courses to attend and exams to sit and pass. The subject is huge and the numbers of fungi and different diagnosis are endless. I went on a short lantra course for the professional tree surveyor and it is very interesting and broadens ones knowledge as a tree surgeon but While there are some shorter courses, TreeSurgery.com recommends doing the full academic course as the subject is so huge.
The job of a tree surveyor is to assess the risk and the health of trees. A document of all the evidence is put in a detailed report to the client listing species, height, age, health and recommendations. They often do this using very high tech equipment which can ‘xray’ a tree and see if there is any rot or potential risk of failure. Software and computers have made the whole process a lot less laborious and easier.
When employing a tree surveyor, make sure they have all the necessary qualifications and insurance.
