It is hard not to think of Somerset and cider and cheese - linking one to the cheddar gorge which is the biggest in the U.K. There are however trees that are the envy of every other county in the UK!! It is a humid county, sheltered due to the valleys under Exmoor, hot in the summer and with limestone soils which is perfect for broadleaf trees. For tree lovers - The Yew at Ashbrittle Church, Wiveliscombe- (one of the top 50 UK Jubilee Trees) this old yew is the largest tree in England and is said to be 3,000 years old!! Other interesting trees can be found at Bath Botanic Gardens - location of the tree collection of CE Broome, Broadwood, Dunster where you can see a douglas Fir which is the tallest tree in the county and can be seen from the road, Clarence Park, Dinder Church, Dunster Castle, Dunster which has subtropical terraced gardens, the National collection of Strawberry trees and the oldest lemon tree, Green Park, Charles Street, Bath, Greencombe, Porlock, Henrietta Park Henrietta Street Bath, Mallet Court Nursery, Curry Mallet, Taunton, Norman Hadden Garden, West Porlock, Royal Victoria Park, Upper Bristol Road , Bath, Sydney Gardens, Sydney Place, Bath, and Wayford Manor, Crewkerne
