Norfolk
Norfolk is known for its flatness but trees can break up the often monotonous sky line. Large old estates contain many exceptional trees although the cold climates in the winter are not ideal for tree growth.
For tree lovers - There are two particular tree sites of note ( top 50 UK Jubilee Trees) The first is Ketts Oak, Wymondham next to B1772 - It is said that this tree witnessed Kett's rousing speech against common land enclosure in July 1549 which sparked off Kett's rebellion. The tree is propped up now but it still produces acorns The second is the Chedgrave Jubilee Oak which commemorates Queen Victoria's 50 years of rule and was planted in 1887 by the rector's wife.
Other interesting location for trees in Norfolk are : Bradenham Hall, West Bradeham, Thetford, Bressingham Nursery and Steam Experience, Diss, Earlham Cemetry where there is said to be the largest Whitebeam in the UK, Holkham Hall, Wells-next-the Sea which is home to the Earl and Countess of Leicester and has an impressive number of holly trees, Lynford Arboretum, Mundford, Brandon, Ryston Hall Downham Market, Boudica's Oak (reputedly sown by her) at Tasburgh, Quaker Lane with a trunk circumference of 25ft!!, Thursford Wood - 3 miles North East of Fakenham with oaks said to be the oldest in the country and Weasenham Woods, Weasenham All Saints, Castle Acre.
