Herefordshire Herefordshire which runs along the Welsh border is one of the best counties for trees and tree growth. It is relitavely unspoilt with a picturesque landscape of orchards and hayfields and lovely parkland with huge field oaks and church yard yews. For tree lovers - The near mile long stretch of Sweet chesnuts at Croft Castle include the Spanish Chesnut, Leominster- (one of the top 50 UK Jubilee Trees) this tree is said to have been planted with one of the chesnuts found on a wrecked ship of the Spanish Armada in 1592. Other chesnuts are planted in the formation of the Spanish Armada. Other interesting trees can be found at Brobury House, Bredwardine with beautiful views of the ruver Wye, Brockhampton Park, Bromyard, Cusop Church, Eastnor Castle, Ledbury with ginormous conifers which have done suprisingly well considering the alkaline soils, Hergest Croft, Kington which extenss over 50 acres and has a tremendous avenue of cedars and the national collection of Acer, Betula, Zelkova and birches, Linton Church, Ross-on Wye, and Whitefield, Allensmore, Truxton
