Hampshire has beautiful countryside with the Cathedral city of Winchester as its county capital. Tree-wise it is there is a great concentration of ancient trees on estates along the fertile Test Valley and the South and North East.
For tree lovers - There are two particular tree sites of note ( top 50 UK Jubilee Trees). The first is at Stratfield Saye, Tadley - where there is a Wellingtonia which was planted in 1857 to comemorate the life of the Duke of Wellington who bought this estate after Waterloo. The second is the Selborne Yew, Selborne, which sadly blew down in 1990 but the trunk, which has a girth of 7.8m, is still there as a monument.
